Movement Climbing Gym, Boulder's newest climbing gym, officially opened this weekend. I'm impressed. The gym is bright, the routes are good, the walls have great texture (not too rough!)...

The lead wall at Movement is sick, it's steep and larger. There are a couple permanent crack, one that's fists (3"), and another that's tight hands (.75-1"). There's a decent bouldering area, campus/ system wall area, yoga room, many treadmills, and really nice weight machines.
The gym could actually pass for a health club (less the pool). The overall square footage is probably 3/4 of the Boulder Rock Club. Membership is a little more expensive than the BRC, but includes yoga and spinning classes.
In other news:
Amy and I got rained out of Vedauwoo this weekend.
Right Now, Adam is epicing in the backcountry of Colorado on Lone Peak. Stuck ropes, blood, sweat, rain (I'm only guessing). Look for a post later this week.
Andrew's been chasing down whispers of new climbing around Las Vegas. I hear he found something. Look for Phantom Crag soon.
Also, you may have notices some changes to the site. Posts and images are now wider, and if you click "video" at the top, you'll go to a page with only the videos (no narratives). I hope to keep improving, if you have suggestions to make the site better,or story ideas, drop me a line at: epowell "the number two" at gmail dot com.

Sorry to here you two were rained out and I'm sorry I missed you two at Movement. I went both Saturday and Sunday.
ReplyDeleteSaturday morning, I tried one of their yoga classes with Brent. It was a fun class and I worked up a good sweat. It's not often you find a yoga instructor with cool tattoos and who will play Led Zeppelin during class!
The climbing area was impressive as Eli described. I liked how the ratings in both the climbing and bouldering area were on the same rating system as outside although they were soft.
The downsides to Movement: there needs to be better air circulation (it was freakin' hot), there are no clocks (I lost 3 hours in there somehow?!), and the $75 initiation fee (WTF?!).
I still have three months left at the BRC, so I'll be interested to see if in that time BRC makes any changes to get people to stay and how many BRC people will move to Movement. If anything, it will be great to have two gyms during the winter so it's not so busy and to now have a place in Boulder for indoor climbing comps!
